There are a large number of different bacteria that can cause gastro.

The most common bacteria that cause gastro are Salmonella, Campylobacter, E.coli and Shigella. These bacteria are often present in raw foods such as meats, chicken and diary products (including un-pasteurised milk) and eggs. Insects, rodents and other animals can also carry harmful bacteria. These bacteria may also be in creeks, rivers, lakes and dams.

Bacteria causes only a small portion of gastro cases in kids. The most common cause is viral gastroenteritis, most commonly Rotavirus.
