![]() In Australia, bacteria, including food poisoning bacteria, cause only a small portion of gastro cases in kids compared to viruses. Around 15% of all cases of gastro are due to bacteria. Bacterial gastro in kids is generally more common in the first few months of life and in school-aged children. The most common bacteria that cause gastro are salmonella, campylobacter, E-coli and shigella. Bacterial gastro causes only a small portion of gastro cases in kids.
